As the 10th Legion gathered its allies to oppose the pagan Emperor Maximander, the surviving Azunite elders met in secret. Many wished t stay with the 10th Legion and fight. But if Maximander won the war, we knew that our faith could be snuffed out.
Some of us—led by the Agallan patriarch Molochi—decided to flee the Empire. We would find a distant refuge that was safe from Maximander to ensure that our faith survived. So we turned our backs upon the Empire and set out across the Aranoi Desert. We were a motley host—humans and Agallan giants—carrying our belongings upon our backs and traveling west into the trackless sand.
The Aranoi is known as a deadly and desolate waste, so we might have fallen prey to hunger, thirst, or beasts of the desert. But Molochi was granted a vision of Azunai—a golden-haired child who led us safely across the sands.
The child brought us to the border of the Imperial colony of Ehb. Here we found a cave with a holy animal inside—a Lamasu, the last of its kind, and a creature that was sacred to Azunai. Thus we knew that we had found our refuge at last, and we gave thanks to Azunai and built our settlement in his name.
