Fortress Emarard was an ancient Utraean castle that protected the Great Clock from attack. When the empire fell to the Zaurask, Nosirrom used the fortress as his base of operations, leading to an alternate name of Zaurask Stronghold. The main gate had been blocked, and the Hero of Arhok had to travel through the fortress's earthbanks to reach a postern gate from which the dungeons could be reached.

The fortress itself is mainly underground, and it resembles Castle Ehb's dungeons. There is a large matrix of armories with near-guaranteed drops of magical items near the main entrance where Nosirrom can be found. Other chambers are inhabited by either Shadowjumper minions or Slithermages.
The merchant Neener can be found running a shop in the middle of the fortress.
The lava caves underneath have a Displacer pad that goes to the polluted lands of the Great Clock.
