The Gunderics once were among the oldest legionnaire bloodlines in Ehb.
History[]

Stephan Gunderic, 21st (and the last, apparently) bearer of the title.

Portrait of Alise Gunderic, dated autumn 1264.
The roots of the lineage go back to the ancient Empire of Stars. The Gunderics were originally part of the 3rd Legion, but towards the end of the War of the Legions everything changed. In one of the battles on the Aranoi Desert, in which the 3rd Legion was defeated by an old enemy, the 10th Legion, most of the warriors, led by Raymond Gunderic, surrendered. The commander of the 10th Legion showed mercy to the survivors and gave them sanctuary in the newly formed 10th Legion The Kingdom of Ehb. Raymond Gunderic was granted the title and lands of the Rukkenvahl valley - but on the condition that he and his descendants watch over the safety of the northern lands[1], Raymond Gunderic, once Archmage of the 3rd Legion, became the first Lord Gunderic of the Kingdom of Ehb at the year of 839[2].
Despite this, misfortunes haunted the Gunderic family[3] - perhaps that is why the representatives of the family were distinguished by a dark and reserved disposition[1]. The rare exception was Geoffrey Gunderic, the sixth lord in the line. He was well respected by his fellow soldiers, even taking over as Archmage of the 10th Legion in 960[3]. Geoffrey served as Archmage for 10 years, during which time he not only introduced a strict system of training for the legion's mages, but also made his estate the center of their training[3] . Even after the betrayal of one of the graduates, Archmage Olvis, which somewhat damaged the reputation of the estate, some mages continued to use it as a training base[3] until the fall of the legion in 1265.

Alise's ghost (1294).
A representative of the Gunderic family, Tesselin, along with his son Lady Montbarron, Wilhelm, led the construction of the Heroes' Crypt after the death of the Farmer in 1192[4].
In the end, the Gunderic family suffered a sad fate. The 21st Lord Gunderic, Stephan, is driven insane by the death of his wife. and the fatal illness of his daughter: in an attempt to save Alise from certain death, Lord Stephan incurred a curse that turned his daughter into a restless ghost[5], and himself into the undead. From the events leading up to this, it is only known that shortly before the conversion, Lord Stephan and Hugh Montbarron sealed the Heroes' Crypt in order to prevent the thief who had entered there from getting out[6].

Dungeon Siege III[]
At the time of the game (1294), the Gunderic line has nearly come to an end. Of all the representatives, only Lord Stephan and his daughter Alise remained, both of them as undead. Their fate depends on the player's actions: whether the player decides to fulfill Leona's request and clear Gunderic Manor or leave everything as it is, whether he defeats Lord Gunderic and decides the fate of the estate (give it to Leona or leave it to the legion), and whether the Heart of Nagog is destroyed (which frees Alise's soul and she can finally go to the River of Souls) or is left untouched.
