Overview[]
This region is essentially linear, connecting to Elddim-town on its west side and Iliarth Divide on its east side. Players are likely to pass through this region at the beginning of their quest in the Peninsula campaign, en route to the Ancient Crypt holding the Elddim Townstone and the Gavel of Convening.
History[]
The Iliarth Valley is immediately east of Elddim. It was carved out by the Iliarth River, a prominent feature of the Peninsula which springs from the mountains beyond Dornek's Quarry and runs through the Great Northern Forest, Elddim, the Valley itself, and then beyond into the canyons of Crystwind, Quillrabe, and the Mesa Desert.
This fertile valley was one of many prime holdings attached to Elddim, the breadbasket of the Peninsula. However, prior to the call to unite the Townstones, Lord Hovart's undead 2nd Legion had the 10th Legion desperately pinned-down, and hordes of Krug swept into the valley and pillaged the unguarded farmlands. Loss of the valley created an emergency.
Young adventurers marked by Azunai promptly sallied forth and had it out with the Krug, eventually putting down Brankar the Scavenger and rendering the Iliarth Valley safe again: a vital opening act in their quest for the Elddim Townstone and securing some means of dealing with Lord Hovart. No kingdom can do without its crops, and this deed helped the Peninsula's economy to stay afloat through the difficult times ahead.
As one goes east from Elddim, he/she goes past the Displacer tower and into the valley. A fork is found, and the player can clear it of Krug, loot a camp on the border of the Great Northern Forest (which is not accessible from here), and emerge at the end of the loop in front of a farmhouse, perhaps that which belongs to Jornus Heald.
Then, he/she finds a sudden drop in altitude, and willow trees appear. A tributary of the Iliarth River can now be followed. From here, one can find two rather large lakes on the path, each loaded with enemies on all banks. Nearby is another farmhouse, with some enemies. The sky gets a little darker, and wolves begin to appear. Halfway up a mountain path to the Ancient Crypt, the player-navigable segment of Iliarth Valley gives way to Iliarth Divide.
