It is based on the Dungeon Siege video game series and features a star-studded cast including Jason Statham, Claire Forlani, Leelee Sobieski, John Rhys-Davies, Ron Perlman, and Ray Liotta. The movie was produced as an international co-production by Germany, America, and Canada, with filming taking place in Canada.

The film premiered at the Brussels Festival of Fantastic Films in April 2007 and was later released in theaters in November of the same year. Unfortunately, it received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics and proved to be a commercial disappointment, grossing just $13.1 million despite its $60 million budget.

Plot[]

The story unfolds in the medieval kingdom of Ehb, where a farmer named Farmer lives with his wife Solana and their young son Zeph. Stonebridge, their peaceful town, is attacked by the Krug, led by the evil Magus Gallian, who seeks to conquer and rule Ehb. Farmer, alongside his friend Norick and brother-in-law Bastian, attempts to save his family during the attack, but tragedy strikes as Zeph is killed by Gallian via a Krug avatar. Solana and other Stonebridge inhabitants are taken prisoner. King Konreid, Commander Tarish, and Ehb's soldiers arrive at Stonebridge to assess the situation and recruit allies for their army. Merick, another Magus who serves Konreid, becomes intrigued by Farmer's identity. Farmer, Norick, and Bastian embark on a quest to find Solana.

The plot unfolds with various twists, including the revelation that Farmer is Konreid's long-lost son, Camden Konreid. Duke Fallow, in league with Gallian, attempts treachery, leading to a series of events that culminate in a battle between Farmer and Gallian. With the help of allies, Farmer defeats Gallian, saving the kingdom and reuniting with Solana.

The film has two versions, a theatrical cut running for 127 minutes and a director's cut running for 155 minutes. Post-production added visual effects, and the soundtrack features songs by Blind Guardian, Threshold, and HammerFall. ==Soundtrack== The movie's main theme was recorded by the German power metal band Blind Guardian. Other songs were contributed by the British progressive metal band Threshold and the Swedish power metal band HammerFall. Wolfgang Herold served as the executive soundtrack producer.

Reception[]

In the Name of the King was a box office bomb, grossing only $2.98 million in its US opening and receiving negative reviews from critics. It received five Razzie Award nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Director. Despite its poor performance, Uwe Boll filmed two sequels: In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds and In the Name of the King 3: The Last Mission. The DVD release does not include the director's cut, but the Blu-ray release does. The film has sold over 813,000 units on DVD, generating revenue of over $14 million, surpassing its box office gross.
