Three days ago, I found a clutch of eggs in the lower springs. They were soft and yielding to the touch… and almost transparent, with a glow from within. Since I found them in the cave’s most sacred waters, I thought that no evil could come of them, so I left them where they lay.
When I saw the Lescanzi witch, Nadya, on the following day, I told her about the eggs. She was intrigued, and she asked me to bring them to her. That evening, I went back down to the lower springs. Imagine my horror when I saw that some of the eggs had already hatched into horrible water spirits—vodyanoi—with cruel claws and dripping fangs.
I fled at once, but I made the mistake of returning to my grotto to gather some food and water before I abandoned the cave. Now the monsters have trapped me here. If you are reading this, then I must have failed to escape. Please—if you value your life, do not venture any further into the cave…
