Dungeon Siege Wiki

Maru-yatum is the Elder and Chief-shaman of the First People Village in Gloamwood Bog. As the leader of the Ur-Shamesh tribe, Maru-yatum rules with an iron hand, viewing outsiders with hostility. He refers to royalists and the Legion as "Firebringers" and opposes their interference in the affairs of the First People.

During the events of Dungeon Siege III, Maru-yatum stands as a barrier between the player and the Heart of Nagog, a powerful artifact sought during the quest The Root of Matter. Despite his animosity, he reluctantly grants the player a charm upon his defeat, allowing them to bypass the magical root blockades throughout the bog. Maru-yatum also releases a captive Royalist Scout Group after being confronted.

Character[]

Maru-yatum embodies the distrust and isolation of the Ur-Shamesh people. While his methods are harsh, they reflect his dedication to protecting his tribe and their secrets from the "Firebringers" he views as threats. His deep connection to the Heart of Nagog and its power suggests his position is more than just political—it is spiritual and tied to the very essence of his people.
