Rajani is a character and a boss in Dungeon Siege III. She's an Archon and one of Jeyne Kassynder's high-ranking handmaids. If certain choises are made by the player during the game, may switch sides and start help the Legion.

Biography[]

Rajani was among those who, alongside Jeyne Kassinder's mother—then First Sister—arrived in Aranna in search of their lost creator gods. In Mournweald, where the seed of the First Creation was found, Rajani, among others, witnessed Anjali's death, to whom, unlike Jeyne's mother, the forest did not grant passage. Later, when Jeyne's mother died and Jeyne became the new First Sister, Rajani, along with the others, became her handmaid. Subsequently, when Jeyne Kassynder declared war on 10th Legion, Rajani fought as her lieutenant.

Rajani (after battle, unconscious)

Unconscious, after battle.

Upon realizing that the legion's descendants were gathering in the old Montbarron Estate, Jeyne Kassinder sent Rajani to solve this "problem." Rajani recruited several Lescanzi clans, promising them generous rewards for each legionnaire killed. Together with the mercenaries, she captured the entire Rukkenvahl valley and Raven's Rill located in it and captured the local boyar (head of the village) Lazar Bassili. While Leskanzi were operating in the valley, Rajani herself dug in in the town hall of the Upper Raven's Rill. However, her plan failed: some descendants of the legion still managed to survive and fled from the burned down estate. These legionnaires not only managed to break through the encirclement, but also got to the town hall—and defeated Rajani herself.

Rajani's fate depends on the actions chosen by the player.

Later life[]

Rajani (Chancel of Azunai)

Rajani at Chancel of Azunai

  • If you agree with Lazar Bassili and kill Rajani, you'll get her spear as a reward—"Heaven's Judgment" (unique spear for Anjali)—and the "Ironhand" deed. Also, during the siege of Spire, there will be no way to negotiate with Saraya and all of Jeyne's handmaids will be killed, which will mark the de facto end of the Archon race.
  • If you follow Marten's advice and let her go ("Gracious in Victory" deed is given, and an increase in influence on Lucas, if he is the player's companion), then during the siege of the Spire, in the castle garden you can meet Rajani and Saraya, with whom you can negotiate a more peaceful solution to the conflict (if you agree not to kill the handmaids, then after defeating them, they will fall on one knee, and then simply jump up—basically, it's Anjali's "Fall from the Heavens" move, only backwards. Later, atop of the Spire, it is Rajani who will say that all handmaids are all alive and well).
  • Choosing "That won't do" dialogue option will lead to a "bad" ending: the handmaids will die, and the third enemy in Chancel of Azunai will be Rajani. Upon her defeat she'll drop "Vorpal Glaive" (unique spear for Anjali).
  • In case of a "good" scenario (both Rajani and the handmaids survived), there will be two choices in the final dialogue with Jeyne (after defeating the corrupted creator god): first, it becomes possible to banish Jeyne, along with the handmaids from Aranna, after which they all teleport to another dimension, and no one will ever see them again. Second, Rajani, along with Saraya and their remaining sisters, return to the kingdom, where they settle in Stonebridge and recognize Anjali as their new spiritual leader.

Rajani concept art

Concept art.

  • In Sanskrit, Rajani (रजनि) means "dark of the night." Also, it is the name of one of the aspects of the Hindu goddess Kali.
  • Rajani and Jeyne are the only ones who use spear/staff while in Fire Spirit form.
  • Rajani is the only Archon who, in her Fire Spirit form, has something similar to flaming wings.
