I am continually amazed by the artifacts of power that are housed in this vault. High Priest Molochi scoffs at my wonderment, claiming the “trinkets” in the smaller vaults pale in comparison to “the greatest treasure of the faith” in the Chamber of Illumination. If these are but “trinkets”, I can only imagine what the High Priest guards in the depths of this place.
I find myself drawn to one artifact in particular, the Phylactery of the Usurper—an obsidian amulet, imbued with old magic. The Agallan priests say that it was worn by the tyrant Maximander in the days when he drove them out of the Empire. Many a night, I cannot sleep until I have gazed upon its magnificence. Unfortunately, the chamber where the amulet is held requires two separate levers to be activate. Each lever is guarded by an Agallan priest. Although I outrank them, they grow suspicious of my nightly forays into the sealed chamber.
Should I ever decide to leave this place, I must take the amulet for myself, before I depart.
