The Siege of Greilyn Beach is the first primary quest in Act I of Dungeon Siege II, serving as the tutorial chapter.

After joining Valdis' army as a mercenary alongside your best friend Drevin, you are flown in by dragon and dropped onto Greilyn Beach. Your unit is tasked with storming the trenches to secure an ancient artifact rumored to be hidden in the Temple of the Coast, currently protected by the Dryads.

This chapter introduces key mechanics, user interface, basic combat, and magic systems. It features scripted tutorial prompts and a small number of enemies, preparing players for the larger campaign.

Walkthrough[]

Your character will begin equipped with a melee weapon, a ranged weapon, and a basic nature or combat magic spell. You’ll receive orders from Morden officers, follow linear objectives marked by gold stars on your minimap, and engage in light combat.

Starting Area[]

  • You begin with Drevin, your level 1 companion. He has a strong melee power called Brutal Attack, which can be used to quickly dispatch enemies.
  • Press "J" to open the journal and track objectives and quest items, including Drevin’s Medallion (a lore-only quest item).

Key Locations[]

  1. Starting Point – After dragon drop-off, speak with Morden Lieutenant Jerind and test your weapons on dummies.
  2. Transport – Search the transport vehicle for a stout broken leaf jerkin, warped short bow, potions, and gold.
  3. Field Hospital – Offers unlimited resurrect scrolls during the tutorial only. A cutscene shows a glimpse of Amren, whom you’ll later recruit.
  4. Ketril Attacks – First significant battles begin here. Use fire-based powers or let Drevin handle enemies.
  5. Infused Ketril – The first elite enemy. Recognizable by its glowing orange ring. Tougher, but drops better loot.
  6. Cave Exit – Triggers a major cutscene: Valdis kills Drevin, and your character is captured, ending the tutorial.
  7. Temple (Cutscene Only) – If you end up here outside the cutscene, it's a known bug. Reload from a previous save.

Tips[]

  • Look for blue "i" icons above NPCs for extra tutorial advice.
  • You can issue the “wait” order to Drevin if you wish to solo. However, some areas require his presence to proceed.
  • Dryad enemies and ketrils are often weak to fire.
  • Loot barrels and crates as you go; tutorial areas often hide potions and gear.

Trivia[]

  • Drevin’s medallion is a unique lore item viewable only through the journal, and not used elsewhere.
  • If Drevin is set to use “Minor Resurrect” as his active spell, he’ll follow you without engaging in combat.
