Sister Eleanor (born Eleanor du Marnay) is a character and quest giver in Treasures of the Sun. She is one of the nuns at the Abbey of St. Hiram.

Background[]

Eleanor is the only daughter of one of the Legion's commanders, Etienne du Marnay. When Jeyne Kassynder declared war on the 10th Legion, du Marnay, in an effort to save his daughter from certain death, secretly took the girl to the Abbey of St. Hiram in Aranoi Desert. The du Marnay bloodline dates back to the time of the exodus from the Empire of Stars and the founding of the Kingdom of Ehb, it preserved legends about the so-called "treasure of the true faith", hidden in the old ruins beneath the Abbey - this is exactly what Etienne du Marnay was going to use for his own purposes. The secret of their departure the commander entrusted only to a devoted servant, Oswald.

Arriving at the Abbey, du Marnay left his daughter in the care of the monks there, and he himself went to look for a way to get into the Agallan Vault under the Abbey. He still entered the Vault - and disappeared without a trace. Eleanor, on the other hand, grew up raised by monks and soon became the most respected sister in the Abbey, in fact its head (unspoken - Abbey of St. Hiram broke away from the church in Bisselberg after Jeyne Kassinder seized power. The last primate was Simeon, who went into the desert as a hermit, and only the Synod can elect a new head of the Abbey).

Treasures of the Sun[]

When in 1294, after thirty years of inactivity, the Causeway built by the Legion near the Abbey was opened, Eleanor was very happy. She gladly provided refuge to the descendants of the Legion who arrived in the Abbey, and all the necessary information about the desert and its surroundings - and everything that she knew about the fate of her father. The only thing she was afraid to reveal to the legionnaires (bearing in mind that with Jeyne Kassinder alive, harboring a descendant of the Legion could end badly for the entire Abbey) was the fact that she was the daughter of Étienne du Marnay. She explained her active assistance at that time with her admiration for the deeds of the Legion - and the desire to challenge Jane.

Usually Sister Eleanor can be found in the abbey building itself - she stands at the entrance. You can talk to her and learn the history of the construction of the abbey. After discovering everything necessary to open the vault - the sacred oil and the tablet - and after performing the ritual, Eleanor herself will turn to the legionnaires and warn them that nothing good can be expected from the "treasure of the true faith", whatever it is, because it is already took many lives.

Further fate[]

In the final dialogue of the expansion, the player will have to decide the fate of sister Eleanor - and in a conversation with Lamasu in the vault before this, you can find out some of the consequences of this decision:

  • If you persuade Sister Eleanor to stay at the Abbey (Deeds (Dungeon Siege III) Voice of Change, Influence on Lucas and Reinhart): Eleanor , as they say, will go on promotion and become one of the hierarchs of the Synod. With her influence and diplomatic approach, she will ensure that in the end the church will turn from an opponent of the Legion into a powerful ally. In return, she will only ask that no one ever know that she is from the du Marne family.
  • If you persuade her to return to the Legion (feat "Loyalty of the Legion's blood", increasing influence on Katarina and Anjali): Eleanor will take her rightful place in the resurgent Legion. Among her descendants there will be many prominent legionnaires, and even the Grand Master. She will give birth to a son, but will die when the child is not even three years old, saving one of her brothers in the Legion.

Notes[]

  • If Eleanor is persuaded to join the Legion, she will move to the Great Fortress Stonebridge, where Oswald used to stand.
  • From one of Eleanor's lines in the fort, you can learn that Martin once offered her a tour of the city, and that, from Eleanor's point of view, his intentions are very serious.
  • According to the book "Peoples of Ehb", du Marne is an old Ilionian family, whose surname is associated with a geographical name.
  • Dapper Old Gent is said to know Etienne du Marnay well.
