Syrd is a citizen of Arhok, who was once a traveling companion of the Hero of Arhok's parents, Orrin and Feliene. He had abandoned their group by the time they had reached the underground city of Mhakesha on the isle of Utrae, having been driven mad by the evil of the island.
Syrd returned home, renting an upstairs room at the Bubberjack Inn. His mind was plagued by what he had experienced on the island for many years, and his madness eventually drove him to smash up his room; believing that the furnishings were Hassat. This went on until the Hero of Arhok defeated the Shadowjumper, retrieved the Staff of Stars, and redeemed the Utraeans. He thanked the Hero when they eventually came back to Arhok, telling them that their parents would be proud.
