Travel to Crystwind is a secondary quest on the Utraean Peninsula, the multiplayer world in Dungeon Siege.

Description[]

This task is set by Priestess Kelti after the hero obtains the Elddim Townstone and her Signet Ring.

"There are a few routes to the town of Crystwind, but I suggest you follow the road east. You'll travel near the Iliarth River through Iliarth Valley, then across the deep gorge in Iliarth Divide, and into the Ancient Crypt to the south. If you can get past the undead, you'll find yourself emerging back outside in Hovart Marsh. It's a bit of a trek to Hovart's Folly, but the scenery is worth the journey. Once you clear your way through the Folly, it's a quick walk south through Elddim Glade to the Crystwind Mines. And the mines exit right into the town of Crystwind itself."
―Default Elddim NPC Directions

The Peninsula is not a linear map. Your choice of which route to take to the mining town can pretty much depend on the level of violence you desire, which in ascending order would be:

  • Teleport to Crystwind through the H.U.B. (requires level 5).
  • Head south from Elddim through the small region of Elddim Glade and a brief segment of the Crystwind Mines. This is the shortest path on foot; players will be warned against it if they are under level 5.
  • Follow the directions east at first, but split off towards Iliarth Falls instead of the Ancient Crypt. This scenic shortcut is lower-leveled than going through Lord Hovart's domain per the directions.
  • Follow the directions to the letter, completing Hovart's Folly (Quest).
  • Go west from Elddim through Lang Mire, Redwood Gap, and the Fury Den, hanging north through a snippet of Iliarth Canyon. Feasible for level 25+ seeking worthy foes, somehow this route is still physically (if not emotionally) shorter than the suggested directions.

Utraean High Priest Kavaren in Hiroth will also issue this quest, relabeled as Journey to Crystwind, if the player arrives there without the Crystwind Townstone.

Dialogue[]

Guard, HUB
  • "This here takes you up to the H.U.B. I hear it was built by those olden day mages, the Utraeans. Those who are part of the Utraean Society of the Circle study it and the ancients, but even they can't get it to work. Sure wish they could; legend says it'll take you anywhere in the land! Priestess Kelti says it's only activated by those with the mark of Azunai the Defender upon them. Seems like a bunch of hogwash to me. Dratted thing is just plain broke, is all!"
Guard, Iliarth Valley exit
  • "Maybe ye noticed, but it's a bit unruly these days. If ye are 'eading to the town of Crystwind, ye might consider following the river 'stead of going through the mines. Aye, it's goodly bit longer, and ye never know wot's crawling along the banks, but at least ye won't be trapped underground when all 'ell breaks loose!"
Guard, Elddim Glade exit
  • (low) "Well met, traveller. You'd be wise not to travel that way, if you value your neck. Krug raiding parties have been scouted all week, and they're not the friendly sort. If you really must go to the Crystwind Mines, I'd advise you to go east through the Ancient Crypts."
  • "Well met, traveller. The road to the Crystwind Mines is crawling with Krug, but you look like the sort who doesn't mind a few hazards."
  • (high) "Hail, friend. If you're off for a jaunt in the Crystwind Mines, you might find it a tad on the slow side. While they certainly won't pose any danger to one as experienced as yourself, the Krug in these parts will pursue you just the same."
Guard, Lang Mire boundary
  • (low) "Egads, traveller, you aren't seriously going to attempt to journey west to Lang through the swamps, are you? You're in no shape for wading through oversized insects in the muck. Head back east through the Lowlands to Elddim where the flies are closer to your size."
  • "Hail, friend. Aye, it's true you can reach Lang if you travel west through the swamp, but it's a dangerous journey even for one as experienced as yourself. If it's Elddim you're seeking, you'll find the overland trek east quite lackluster, with a few small bands of roving Krug to contend with."
  • (high) "Heading west to Lang through the Mire, are you? Be assured, the giant flies will be nothing more than pesky gnats to one as experienced as yourself. Fair travels to you!"
